Happy Independence Day!
July 4, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Today the nursery is closed and we’re at home with our families and with nature’s own fireworks—plants that burst with Independence Day blooms just like the sky does at night!
Here are some hardy flowers that love Independence Day as much as we do!
- Bee Balm (Monarda) – These firecracker-shaped flowers attract pollinators and bring explosive color to your garden. Bee Balm thrives in full sun with moderate water. Bee Balm also attracts pollinators like hummingbirds and butterflies, and it tolerates dry summer conditions once established. Just be sure to give it good air circulation to avoid powdery mildew in dry heat.
- Allium – With globe-like blooms that pop like sparklers, they’re a summer favorite! These hardy bulbs love well-draining soil and full sun—perfect for our dry, rocky soils. Plant in the fall for spring and early summer blooms.
- Crocosmia – Their bold red and orange flares light up garden beds like a grand finale. Bold and drought-tolerant once established, plant in a sheltered spot with good mulch, as young plants may need a little winter protection during colder years.
- Gaillardia (Blanket Flower) – With vibrant red and yellow petals, they echo the spirit of celebration and sunshine. Practically made for the high desert! It loves heat, poor soils, and full sun. Blooms all summer with very little water and makes an excellent low-maintenance pollinator plant.
Stop by this week and pick out a patriotic bloom—or just wander our peaceful nursery and enjoy the season. Here’s to freedom, flowers, and the joy of gardening in the Sierra Nevada.
